Portrait Workshop

Student level: Intermediate to Advanced
Cost: $525
We will be offering a three day workshop by Warren Chang, Signature Artist member of the California Art Club, Master Signature member of the Oil Painters of America and author of the recently published book Narrative Paintings by Warren Chang. The 3-day portrait painting workshop will emphasize working in a monochromatic oil wash, or underpainting, on the first day followed by instruction with an extended limited palette the remaining days. Focusing on an oil wash will help enable an artist to first familiarize themselves with the oil medium while working on controling drawing, values, edges and brush strokes. Students will then master the mixing of color and control of color harmonies on following days. Warren will do demonstrations on the first two days of the workshop. A professional carver since 1983 and in his 42nd year of carving, Floyd Scholz is universally recognized as one of the top carver of birds in the world. His portrayals of eagles, hawks, owls and many other large birds have won him a large international following and many top awards at major shows throughout the country. The Bennington is proud to have an extensive collection of his carvings on display on a permanent basis and to have Floyd in residence for numerous workshops throughout the summer.
